Artist Statement:

I am a media artist who utilizes the language of photography, cinema and documentary to weave together complex visual narratives. This process begins and often ends with a single image, a momentary revelation, a feeling of anxiety, or a meditative memory. Working in diverse media, from site-specific video installation to documentary film, my goal is to initiate a dialogue, give pause, and present new realities to affect change.

I am increasingly interested in landscape imagery and its power to represent the impact we have on one another and our environment. The Lillian, a video documentary, examines the cultural ramifications of demolishing a low-rent apartment building, while Del Awares is concerned with the complex social and emotional impact of living among the rapidly altered American landscape. I believe that storytelling is a key component to human discourse, connecting individuals with divergent backgrounds and beliefs. By dovetailing traditional storytelling, documentary, and cinematic devices, my work seeks to challenge our cinematic expectations.

In 1998 I relocated to Seattle, Washington and exhibited works in several juried exhibitions, including exhibitions at the Seattle Art Museum and the Bellevue Art Museum.  In 2007 I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with an MFA degree in Art & Media.
