  • Holga Portraits

Over the past several years I have become extremely interested
in the art of tattoo. I am excited by the thought that goes into
choosing the right tattoo to express ones self, the physical act,
and pain, of being tattooed, and the often overlooked beauty
that is the outcome of this ancient art.

I am fascinated by the diversity in people who have tattoos, and
all of the different stories behind why they have them. For this
reason I decided to start photographing people with tattoos. I
wanted to show them in a way that enables the viewer to really
slow down and take a good look at someone they might
normally walk right by or even misjudge. Every person I
photograph has a story behind his or her tattoo(s). My goal is
to show these people for who they are, and to show them in a
beautiful way, because they, themselves, are like actual living,
    breathing art.

  • Family Album

Robin McGuire’s “Family Album” questions the significance of domestic roles in a family structure in a refreshingly humorous manner. This photographic series features a family of insects going about their daily activities and events, from cooking meals together, to Christmas morning. These images provide an intimate glimpse into the life of an ordinary, middle class family. With no certainty of the sex of each insect, these images touch on the issue of expected gender roles within the family structure by allowing the viewer to assign roles to each insect.
